The cables to be welded together are bared from sheath and insulant over a distance close to the ends. The space between the sheath and insulant is stopped up at the level of the cut by winding on silk ribbon. A cooler is applied to each cable near to the stopping and a short distance from the ends. Freezing takes place rapidly so that the welding operation can be carried out in ideal conditions of internal pressure and in the absence of oil. The process can be used for all types of cable especially Al cables. |
