1361188 Heating and ventilating vehicles SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Sept 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 50002/70 Heading F4V Apparatus for heating and ventilating vehicles comprises a housing defining a plenum chamber 6, an inlet chamber 7 and an outlet chamber 8, the outlet chamber 8 having openings 29 which communicate with the interior of the vehicle and openings 30 which transmit air to the interior of the vehicle windscreen. Air entering the channel 9 is transmitted from the chamber 6 to the inlet chamber 7 via a port 12 and rotor fan 16. The relative proportions of air flowing from chamber 7 into a heating compartment 25 and into a by-pass passage 22 which leads to outlet chamber 8 is controlled by a flap valve 35. A flap valve 40 inhibits the air flow, in one position, from both the heating compartment 25 and directly from the inlet chamber 7 into the outlet chamber 8. A third flap valve 45 is connected to the flap 35 via a lost motion mechanism, and is spring-biased to a position tending to increase the air flow from the heating compartment 25. Heat may be derived from a heat-exchanger matrix 26 fed with the engine coolant liquid. |
