Electrical safety device e.g. for motor vehicle in collision - reduces risk of fire by disconnecting battery from all electrical loads other than hazard warning lamps

The device is coupled functionally to the actuator (6) of an occupant restraint (seat belt or air bag) triggered by an acceleration limit switch. The connection of electrical loads within the vehicle to the positive terminal of its battery is broken (2) by a contact which activates simultaneously an electronic timer (3). A filament lamp (4) is caused to emit flashes into optical cables (5) leading to the four direction indicator lamps (VR,VL,HR,HL) so that these radiate the conventional hazard warning. ADVANTAGE - The facility for giving warning of a hazard by flashing indicator lamps is not impaired when all other loads are disconnected from the positive terminal of the battery.
