Desulphurising molten cast iron - as a continuous stream in a treatment vessel into which melt is raised

Cash iron melts are desulphurised by raising them as a continuous current from e.g. a open laddle (I) into and through a treatment vessel (II) in which a bath of desulphurising slag is permanently maintained and which overfloats a layer of the melt brought from (I). The melt is raised through a vertical tube (III) attached to the base of (II) and plunging deeply below the surface of the melt in (I), by the dynamic thrust from the injection of pressurised gas into (III). In (II) the melt spreads out and flows in contact with the desulphurising slag towards an evacuation tube whose inlet orifice is below the outlet orifice of (III).
