The machine has a lifting table (20) accommodating a reserve (22) of stacked plates which are aligned in a vertical plane (b -b). The table indexes upwards, while above it is a horizontal thruster (30) for one or more plates at a time onto the machine-tool table. A plate-retaining system (32) has two or more spaced stops (34) in a common plane (c -c) parallel to the first plane, and which are incorporated in the machine-tool table. The stops are adjustable from the bottom rest position into one above the table surface (24), this movement being delayed after the start of the thrust movement onto the table. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for parting saw machines. No unwanted plate can be dragged along with the others.
