The subject of the application relates to a carrying device for bales in the form of an extension on a vehicle such as a fork-lift truck. It comprises: a frame (4) which can be fixed to the vehicle, a lifting device (5) which can be raised and lowered on the frame (4), and two carrying arms (6, 7) which extend from the lifting device (5) outwards in the direction of motion. The carrying arms are provided with opposing vertical contact faces (8) which are parallel and can be closed and opened on the lifting device at right angles to the vehicle's direction of motion. To simplify the task of unbaling and in particular to obviate the need for a separate operation, at least one of the two carrying arms (6) is provided with a cutting device (10) which extends along the entire height of the contact face (8) and is used to cut through the tying cords of the bales.
