A glove box furnished with a safety catch includes a housing (H), lid (B) switch-movably supported inside the housing (H), a biasing device (11)for keeping the lid (B) biased constantly in an opening direction and a lock device (12,13) for controlling the motion of the lid (B). The lid (B) is caused by the operation of the lock device (12,13) to be locked at a shutting position thereof inside the housing (H) against the action of the biasing device (11) and, by pushing it into the housing (H), allowed to be released from the locked state at the shutting position and moved automatically in the opening direction from an opening part of the housing (H). The safety function is manifested by providing the lid (B) with a rotary member (1), a device (2) for exerting a rotary force on the rotary member (1) in one direction, an inertia follower (4) movable to a waiting position and an operating position, the rotary member (1) and the inertia follower (4) being provided on the housing (H), and a protuberance (9) provided on the lid (B) for allowing the rotary member (1) to be rotated in the reverse direction during a release of the lid (B) from the locked state at the shutting position. The inertia follower (4) is moved to the operating position and the rotary member (1) is prevented from rotating in the reverse direction only during the presence of inertial force.
