PURPOSE:To provide a stable method and a device for controlling an image in which the paint-out of a character or surface staining is prevented by adjusting the idle rotating time of a developing device, a toner replenishment condition and a latent image forming condition. CONSTITUTION:After the developing device 7a is started to be idly rotated, the formation of the developed image of a reference density pattern on a photosensitive drum 2 and the detection of the density of the developed image by a photosensor 12 are repeatedly executed. At such repetition, the time change rate of the detected value is obtained based on the continuous detected values thereof and compared with a reference value which is previously set. Then, when the time change rate of the detected value becomes equal to or under the reference value, the idle rotation of the developing device 7a is finished. Besides, the toner replenishment condition may be set with the detected value of the density of the developed image at the final time of the repetition as a reference after the idle rotation of the developing device is finished. Moreover, the latent image forming condition such as electrostatic charge potential and exposure on the drum 2 may be set based on the detected value of the density of the developed image at the final time of the repetition. |
