PURPOSE:To provide a support for a superconducting magnet, which has good heat insulating property and prevents the entrance of radiant heat, by coating supporting cylinders of fiber-reinforced plastic with low-emission metal of a specific thickness. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces of supporting cylinders 5 and 6 of fiber-reinforced plastic are coated with gold, silver, or aluminum to several hundred angstroms. If the thickness of this coating 21 exceeds 1000 angstroms, the amount of entering heat increases. Therefore, the coating should be 100 to 1000 angstrom thick. Since the supporting cylinders are coated with gold, silver or aluminum that has low emissivity, the amount of heat Q1 entering by radiation is decreased. In addition, the amount of heat Q2 entering by conduction is also decreased because the coating is deposited to less than 1000 angstroms. As a result, the total amount of heat entering from the supporting device 3 to the inner vessel 2 is decreased. |
