PURPOSE:To easily detect the azimuth of an obstacle in a wide visual field and to easily judge the existence of probability of interrupting the traveling of a vehicle itself by the obstacle. CONSTITUTION:Plural windows 16 to 20 are set up on a position requiring the monitoring of an obstacle in a display screen 11. Upper and lower corresponding images picked up by two image sensors 3, 4 are mutually compared by a microcomputer 10 using respective screens in the windows 16 to 20 as reference images. A deviation between both the images is electrically detected from the outputs of the sensors 3, 4 and a distance up to a target catched by the windows 16 to 20 is measured by the microcomputer 10 by means of the principle of triangulation. In addition, whether the obstacle catched by a radar device 15 mounted on the vehicle interrupts the traveling of the vehicle itself or not is judged by the microcomputer 10 based upon the measured distance value and the window setting position. Consequently the obstacle catched by the radar device 15 can easily be judged and the existence of interruption to the traveling of the vehicle by the obstacle can easily be discriminated. |
