PURPOSE:To ensure writing at a low voltage and easy drive of a panel and to provide good display quality and drive property by arranging a scanning electrode on the first insulation board in which display data is written and a maintaining electrode on an alternate basis along a board surface. CONSTITUTION:A scanning electrode on the second insulation board 2, in which display data is written by discharge to a data electrode 4 on the first insulation board, and a maintaining electrode, to which a maintaining pulse is only applied to maintain main discharge, are shifted in parallel with each other along a board surface as the first electrode group 11 and the second electrode group 12, respectively, and formed so that the edges of the electrodes may be aligned with each other in a display cell or one electrode may partially overlap with the other, to arrange both electrodes all over the surface. In this way, a large area of the scanning electrode in the cell and a big space where discharge occurs as an initiation of writing discharge are obtained, resulting in higher writing discharge probability. Stable writing of display data is therefore ensured. |
