Acrylic esters of primary or secondary monoalcohols which boil above 95 deg.C are prepd. by transesterifying isopropyl acrylate or isobutyl acrylate with an alcohol the boiling point of which is at least 9 deg.C. higher than that of isopropanol or isobutanol, according to which ester is being used as starting material. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a neutral or basic transesterification catalyst and of a polymerisation inhibitor, at a temp. between 95 deg.C and the boiling point of the acrylic ester which is being prepd. and at a pressure above 500 mm. Hg. The liberated alcohol is removed continuously from the reaction mixture by fractional distillation. The acrylates are used as monomers for (co) polymers.
