PURPOSE:To provide a fuel cell of long service life by preventing the shortening of a local cell in a stack body, and unifying the cell life of the whole of stacked cells. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of cells 8a to 8b comprising a pair of plates 10 and 11 (18 and 19) sandwiching an electrolyte layer 9 of a matrix impregnated with an electrolyte are stacked via gas separators 15, and a cooling plate 17 is provided for each of a plurality of the stacked cells 8a to 8e, thereby forming a stack body 1. A reaction gas feed and exhaust manifold 7 is laid at the side of the stack body 1, thereby constituting a fuel cell. Among a plurality of the fuel cells 8a to 8e clamped with adjacent cooling plates 17, at least the plates 18 and 19 forming a cell 8c laid farthest from the cooling plates 17 are made thicker than the plates 10 and 11 of other cells 8a, 8b, 8d and 8e. |
