A liquid detergent composition contains: (A) an anionic surfactant having the formula (I): RO(CH2CH2O)nSO3M(I) wherein R is a C10-C18 alkyl or alkenyl group, n is 0 to 5, and M is hydrogen, an alkaline metal cation, an alkaline earth metal cation, an ammonium cation or a substituted ammonium cation; and (B) an amphoteric ion surfactant having the formula (II): <IMAGE> (II) wherein R' is a C10-C16 alkyl or alkenyl group, provided that the weight ratio of component (A) to a total amount of components (A) and (B) is 0.2 to 0.8 and the total amount of components (A) and (B) is 0.05% to 0.3% by weight.
