PURPOSE:To provide a new actinonin derivative active in inhibiting an angiotensin converting enzyme and useful as an enzyme-inhibiting substance, especially enkephalinase, derived by the chemical modification of actinonin which is an antibiotic substance produced by the culture of actinomycetes. CONSTITUTION:The actinonin derivative of formula I (R<1> is sulfoxymethyl, carboxyl or substituted carboxyl selected from carboxamide, hydroxyaminocarbonyl and alkoxycarbonyl; R<2> is hydroxyl, alkoxy, hydroxyamino or sulfoxyamino) and its salt, e.g. (2R)-2-(sulfoxyamino- carbonylmethyl)heptanoyl-L-valyl-(2S)-2-(sulfoxymethyl)pyrrolidine of formula II. The compound of formula II in the compound of formula I can be produced by sulfonating actinonin of formula III. |
