PURPOSE:To improve the yield stress of the composite product by adding SiC powder to a two-dimensionally woven fabric-reinforced composite product containing a mullite-based ceramic as a matrix. CONSTITUTION:A mullite ceramic having an average particle diameter of <=3mum is compounded with 2-40wt.% of SiC powder having a particle size of <=2mum, mixed with a suitable solvent (e.g. water or an alcohol) and sufficiently stirred in a pot mill to slurry the mixture. The slurry is impregnated into a two-dimensional woven fabric (e.g. carbon fibers) produced by unixially or multiaxially weaving yarns, each comprising several hundreds or several thousands of filaments, and the impregnated woven fabric is subjected to vacuum treatment to impregnate the mullite ceramic into the inner part of the woven fabric. The operations are repeated. A plurality of the treated woven fabrics are laminated to each other, and a slurry useful for forming sheets and produced by adding a plasticizer, etc., to mullite powder containing a thermally softening binder (e.g. polyvinyl butyral) and the SiC powder, stirring the mixture and subsequently grinding the mixture is inserted into the laminate. The laminate is preliminarily molded and respectively subjected to a uniaxial press (hot press) sintering. |
