PURPOSE:To solve the problem of density unevenness by a method wherein a control means is provided for controlling signals that drive recording heads in accordance with correction values provided by calculation made by a calculation means for the signals to be impressed to the heads. CONSTITUTION:Recording paper on which a test pattern placed on a copy- carrying glass 22 is recorded is read with a read sensor 24 that is moved in scanning mode in the direction the same as that of the scanning by ink jet heads 33-36. Recording density characteristics in the above-mentioned scanning direction for each of nozzles in each of the ink jet heads can be obtained from data that are read by the above-mentioned means. In obtaining such characteristics, the amount of slippage in the density of recordings made by each of the nozzles are calculated to determine how much the slippage is from the specified density M. By adjusting the intensity of thermal energy to be applied to each of the nozzles of each of the recording heads for correction of the calculated amount of the slippage, sizes of ink drops ejected from each of the nozzles can be made uniform, and thereby the problem of density unevenness occurring in the direction of scanning by a carriage can be solved. |
