PURPOSE:To obtain a photomagnetic recording medium having an efficiently formable, high refractive index protecting film with superior sputter rate by providing the protecting film containing Si, Ge and C and a photomagnetic recording film on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The subject photomagnetic recording medium consists of a protecting film containing Si, Ge and C formed using an SiCGe target obtained by sintering SiC powder and Ge powder doped with a doping agent, or an SiCGe target obtained by sintering Si powder doped with a doping agent, Ge powder doped with a doping agent and C powder, with the help of a magnetron sputter technique, on a substrate or a photomagnetic recording film. In concrete terms, the protecting film 2 and the photomagnetic recording film 3 consisting of at least, one type of element selected from among 3d transition elements and at least, one type of element selected from rare earth elements, are formed sequentially on the substrate 1 such as glass or aluminum to obtain the photomagnetic recording medium. |
