PURPOSE:To prevent paper from being used wastefully by reducing extremely a load on a user by a method wherein a means detecting a shade of ink is arranged to a printer which prints a data by receiving the data from an upper device. CONSTITUTION:When printing of one line is completed, an ink shade-detecting sensor 4 detects transmissivity of light and informs a CPU 3 of the information. The CPU 3 carries out analytical processing based on the information above- mentioned and classifies the data into three stages such as the stage (1) wherein printing capacity of an ink ribbon is appropriate, the stage (2) wherein since the ink ribbon is slightly light colored, the ink ribbon for exchanging shall be prepared, and the stage (3) wherein the ink ribbon shall be immediately exchanged. In the case of the stage (2), a user is so urged as to prepare the ink ribbon for exchanging by lighting up an LED 5 for previous exchange of exchange or the like. In the case of the stage (3), the printing function is stopped by lighting up an LED 6 for warning of exchange. When exchange of the ink ribbon is finished, the shade of ink is detected again with the ink shade-detecting sensor 4. If the data is the stage 1 or the stage 2, printing is restarted. |
