Flat steel collar mfr - for high pressure vessels

Multi-layered flat steel collars are mfrd. by winding flat steel tightly around a hollow mandrel resting on a back-up roll in a roll-stand. Power cylinders mounted above the mandrel press down onto the flat steel during winding-on. The cylinders are mounted on a swivelable cross-beam on which a pressure roller is mounted. Between the latter and the beam there are movable back-up rollers that are associated with pressure units to flex the pressure roller in advance. A second non-driven back up roller is separated from the first by an interposed mechanism. The arrangement is particularly useful in the production of a multi-layer collars of large dimensions.
