Selectively permeable membranes containing an immobilised hydrophilic gel and their preparation

Selectively permeable membrane consisting of a support membrane containing a continuous network of a water-insoluble and hydrophilic gel capable of swelling in the presence of water. Examples of such gels are dextran gel crosslinked with dimethylolurea or polycondensed dimethylolurea gels. In addition to the modification of the hydrophilic nature, the presence of a gel immobilised in the porous structure of the support membrane makes it possible to obtain various combinations of properties which can be employed in the fields of application of the gels and of the selectively permeable membranes.
