<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the subject new compound useful as a ligand in a catalyst for various organic synthetic reactions, especially asymmetric hydrogenating reaction, etc., and having no twofold rotation axis. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are phenyl or cyclohexyl which can be substituted with halogen, etc.; R<3>, R<4>, R<7> and R<8> are H, lower alkyl, etc.; R<5> and R<6> are lower alkyl, trifluoromethyl, etc., with the proviso that at least one pair of R<3> and R<8>, R<4> and R<7>, R<5> and R<6> and R<1> and R<2> indicates mutually different substituent group), e.g. 3-methoxy-2,4- dimethyl-2'-nitro-4',6'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-1,1'-biphenyl. This compound is obtained by optically resolving, e.g. a compound of formula II [Y<1> is P(O),(R<1>)2] and then reducing the phosphinyl group thereof with trichlorosilane in chlorobenzene. The compound of formula II is a new substance and obtained by reacting, e.g. a compound of formula III (X<4> is halogen or boric acid; Y<3> is H, nitro, etc.) with a compound of formula IV and using the resultant compound of formula V as a raw material.</p> |
