Process for electrosynthesis of symmetric fluorobiphenyls

Electrosynthesis of symmetric fluorobiphenyls by electrodimerisation, in organic solvent medium, of halobenzenes containing at least one fluorine atom and at least one halogen atom other than fluorine, which are directly bonded to the phenyl ring. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst based on nickel complexed with at least one organic ligand and the anode is made of a metal chosen from the group consisting of aluminium, iron and alloys thereof. This new process makes it possible in particular to improve the yield and the selectivity of the reaction. Symmetric fluorobiphenyls are intermediates for the synthesis of medications and of special polymers.
