The camshaft controls at least two inlet valves per cylinder of which one can be disabled. The cam which actuates the valve is mounted on a sleeve (7) on the camshaft (1) such that by displacement in one direction it is coupled to the camshaft and by displacement in the other direction is decoupled from the camshaft. The outer surface of the sleeve is eccentric in relation to the rotary axis (M1) of the camshaft whereby the eccentricity (e) when the cam is coupled to the shaft lies in the same phase as the cam peak (6a). USE/ADVANTAGE - Camshaft mechanism for IC engine which avoids build-up of quantity of fuel at disabled valve.
