<p>In a method of making screws, rivets or similar objects an elongate blank is received in a reciprocating die (16) in the form of a through-going channel, and it is then formed between a tool (98) at one end of the die and a dolly (97) at the other end of the die. The die (16) and the dolly (97) are in mutual contact and are moved toward and then away from the tool (98) in a working period of a working cycle, and the die (16) is separated from the dolly (97) in a dwell period of said working cycle and in contact with a stop means. A transition period is inserted at the transition from one of the two periods to another, and the speed of the die (16) in the transition period is changed smoothly from its speed at the end of the preceding period to its speed at the beginning of the following period. An apparatus for making screws, rivets or similar objects is adapted to insert a transition period at the transition from one of the two periods to another, and to smoothly change the speed of the die (16) in the transition period from its speed at the end of the preceding period to its speed at the beginning of the following period.</p> |
