<p>Chromate contained in Cr contg. waste is insolubilized by mixing the moist waste with org. materials suitable for conversion into active charcoal (e.g. pulp waste liquor, wood shavings, chopped straw, pulverised lignite, pulp slurry), roasting the mixture in a gas atmosphere (pref. CO, CO2, N2 or steam) with low O2 content at a gas temp. of 400 - 1000 degrees C and a material temp. of 400 - 800 degrees C, and quenching the roasted product. The final product can be disposed of without risk of pollution due to leaching of harmful hexavalent Cr.</p> |
