The room lighting unit (2) incorporates red, green and blue (primary colours) lamps (22-24) whose brightness is adjusted individually by dimmers (25-27) in the mains supply circuit (28, 29). The dimmers are controlled by signals on a transmission line (20) from a circuit (1) in which the corresp. chrominance signals (11-13) are individually smoothed (14-16) and converted (17-19) by comparison with a mains-frequency sawtooth waveform. An additional element in the control circuit allows manual settings of the min. and max. brightness. ADVANTAGE - The brightness and colour of the room lighting can be varied in sympathy with the luminance and chrominance of the displayed picture for an enhanced impression.
