The garage door is constructed from horizontal slats (20) which are connected to each other by elastically deformable hinges. Each slat has a guide roller 84) attached to each end. The guide rollers run in a vertical guide rail (13) which extends upwards to a horizontal guide rail (2). The guide roller of the top slat is guided around a relatively sharp corner in passing from its closed to its open position. The rollers of the remainnig slats are guided by a curved rail (22) with a relatively large radius of curvature. Similarly, horizontally sliding doors, guided along the garage side walls can be constructed.
