A display case (10) having at least one active display board (28) which provides information to customers or retailers which may be directly related, collaterally related, or not related to items displayed in the display case (10). Each display board (28) has a display unit (30), a control circuit (32), and a unit (34) such as a keyboard unit or remote control for inputting information or program instructions to the control circuit (32) or display board (28). The display unit (30) may display stationary or moving information, and the information may be in different languages. Any number of active display boards (28) may be mounted inside or outside the display case (10), inside doors (12), on doors (12), shelves (26), or a surrounding frame (14) of the display case, or on the supporting structure (50) that the display case (10) is mounted on, such as a cabinet or wall.
