A filter element consists of a multi-pleated strip of filter material, the shape of which is fixed by an adhesive bond in the form of a spun web of fine adhesive material filaments on at least one external side of the pleated strip. Pref. the adhesive material is a hot melt adhesive, a two-component adhesive, a polyamide adhesive or a polyurethane adhesive. USE/ADVANTAGE - The filter element is useful in an I.C. engine air filter, a vehicle interior filter, an industrial dust removal device or vacuum cleaner, e.g., in asbestos disposal. Less adhesive is used to maintain the shape stability of the filter element.
