1347005 Trays for stacking bottles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 July 1971 [14 Aug 1970] 39279/70 Heading B8C A tray, e.g. 15 comprises n rows of (n-1) regions 3 for accommodating the bases of a layer of bottles 16 and (n-1) rows of n holes 2 for accommodating the necks of a subjacent layer of bottles 14 located on a tray 13 similar to the tray 15, but rotated through 90 degrees with respect thereto. A top third tray 17 aligned with the tray 13 accommodates the necks of the bottles 16 within its holes 2. The stack of bottles 14, 16 is shrink-wrapped in a polythene film or placed on a pallet and shrink-wrapped in a polythene bag. A tray may comprise a flat sheet provided with intersecting ribs 8 part curved to define the regions 3, tapered hole flanges 10 and a reinforcing peripheral flange 7. Alternatively, a tray may comprise two preformed sheets (4, 5, Fig. 2) connected together and reinforced by a series of ribs (6). The trays may be formed from a copolymer of polypropylene. The trays may be solid mouldings or they may be foamed in which case they may have unfoamed surface layers. The trays may be fabricated by injection moulding or by extrusion. |
