The lock for a motor vehicle door is actuated by a lever (42) which has one end pivoted to a pin which is formed integrally with a second lever (30). The second lever (30) has a slot (34) which engages the crankpin (51) attached to a third lever (50). A handle (11) pivots about a pin (12) and is operated to press the second lever (30) downwards to actuate the first lever (42) and so release the catch. The second lever is only pressed downwards when the crankpin (51) is in its lowest position. The third lever (50) is rotated by inserting the key (66) in the cylinder lock (60') so that it is either horizontal when the lock is engaged or is vertical and allows the handle (11) to be operated to release the catch. ADVANTAGE - The lock is suitable for individual locks or for a central locking system.
