Electrophotographic photoconductor has an electroconductive layer (I) with a photoconductive coating (II) contg. a charge generating material (III) and a vinylidene cpd. (IV) as charge transport material. (IV) is a beta-aryl-itaconic dinitrile or mon-ester mono-nitrile or 1-alkoxy-2-aryl-ethenyl cyanide of formula Ar-CH=C(CN)-X (IVA) or a beta-aryl-itaconic diester of the formula Ar-CH=C(COR)2 (IVB). In formulae Ar = an aromatic gp.; X = CN, 1-8C alkl or an alkoxycarbonyl gp. of the formula -COOCnH2n+1 with n = 1-8; R = 1-8C alkyl and the 2 R gps. may be combined to a ring. Specifically Ar = Ph; a polycyclic, i.e. naphthalene, phenanthrene, cnehtracene or pyrene gp.; a heterocyclic i.e. indole, pyridine, furan, diazole, carbazole or quinoline gp.; or a metallocene gp.; and may be substd. by amino (pref. Nr'2 with both R' gps. = Me, Et, benzyl, Ph, tolyl or one R' = Ph and the other = tolyl), 1-8C alkoxy (pref. MeO, EtO or benzyloxy), halogen (pref. F, Cl or Br), OH, 1-8C alkyl (pref. Me, Et, t-Bu or CF3), -COOCnH2n+1 (pref. n = 1, 2 or 4), CN or NO2. Pref. (II) also contains a binder resin (V), pref. polyethylene, polypropylene, (meth)acrylate, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, epoxide, polyurethane, phenolic, polyester, alkyd, polycarbonate, silicone, melamine, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer or vinyl choride-vinyl acetate-maleic anhydride copolymer resin or poly-N-vinyl-carbazole. The amts. used are 20-200 (wt.)% (III) and 20-200% (IV) w.r.t. (V). The (II) thickness is 7-50 microns for a single layer contg. (III) and (IV); or 5-50 microns for the layer contg. (IV) and 0.1-10 microns for that contg. (III). Pref. (III) consists of amorphous or trigonal Se, a Se-As or Se-Te allo, CdS, CdSe, Cd(S,Se), HgS, PbO, PbS, amorphous Si or a bis- or polyazo, triarylmethane, thiazine, oxazine, xanthene, cyaninc, styrene, pyrylium, quinacridone, indigo, perylene, polycyclic quinone, bisbenzimidazole, indanthrone, squarylium, anthraquinone or phthalocyanine dyestuff.
