A torque limiter adapted to reset automatically after the lapse of long period of time. An inner race (1) is provided with a cylindrical surface (5), and an outer race (2) a polygonal locking surface (9) formed by a polygonal ring-shaped plate spring (8). A retainer (11) provided between the inner and outer races (1,2) is provided in its pockets with rollers (13) engaged with minimum clearances between the cylindrical surface (5) and the locking surface (9). The retainer (11) is decentered radially by a bearing (16) provided on an eccentric surface (15) of the inner race (1), so as to bring an annular portion (20) of the retainer (11) into contact with an annular portion (19) provided on the outer race (2). When load torque becomes high with the rollers (13) in an engaged state, the plate spring (8) is deformed, and the rollers (13) pass the positions of engagement, so that a clutch is disengaged. The retainer (11) is then turned by a rotational force transmitted from the inner race (1) while in contact with the annular portion (19) of the outer race (2), to cause creep to occur, and transfer the rollers to subsequent positions of engagement at a low speed. <IMAGE> |
