Purified water meeting the standards for re-circulation water supply is obtained by this method, while carrying out an efficient and economically profitable regeneration of spent ionites. The method uses weak electrolyte ionites connected in series - a weak base anionite in OH-form and a weak acid cationite in H-form. The produced purified water contains Cu<2+> and SO4<2-> at levels below 0.1 mg/l, has low salt contents and can be reused in the process, using ammonia for the regeneration of the weak base anionite.
