<p>A xanthine derivative of the formula (I): <CHEM> wherein R<1> and R<2> are the same or different and are substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic alkyl; m1 and m2 are the same or different and represent an integer of 0 to 2; and Q represents <CHEM> (in which R<3> and R<4> are the same or different and are substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic alkyl) or <CHEM> (in which n is 0 or 1, and Y is a single bond or alkylene); or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is disclosed. This derivative has diuretic activity and renal protecting activity.</p>
