: An article of clothing, in particular for the medical or chemical field for protection against liquids and/or microorganisms which comprises at least three layers, at least in part, is characterised in that the outer layer (1) is formed of a hydrophobic fabric which forms a liquid barrier and a micro-organism barrier and in that the inner layer (22) comprises at least one carrier material (24) having a netlike, apertured or open mesh structure secured or securable to said outer layer at at least one non-critical position at which the danger is low of passage of liquids and/or microorganisms through that outer layer, and in that at least one membrane (26) is secured to said carrier material (24) at at least one critical position at which the danger exists of the passage of liquid and/or micro-organisms through said outer layer.
