The nucleic acid and amino acid sequence of equine epidermal growth factor (EGF) and some variants thereof, are disclosed. Also mentioned are vectors and hosts for use in expressing nucleic acid to produce equine EGF (and its variants) by translation. Pharmaceutical compositions containing equine EGF (and its variants) are useful in the healing of wounds and in particular tendonitis in horses.
