The present invention relates to a section with U-shaped cross section including a base (7) and two branches (8, 9) joined to the base and each ending in a stiffening element (10, respectively 11) parallel to the base. The stiffening elements (10, 11) point in the same direction, one of them (10) being situated inside the space extending between the planes of the internal faces of the two branches (8, 9), while the other (11) is situated outside this space. Furthermore, the base (7) includes at least one cutout (12), one side of which is situated in the plane of the internal face of the branch (9) carrying the outer stiffening element (11). The present invention relates also to a framework comprising at least two uprights (1) facing each other and joined together by a section (2) such as defined hereinabove. <IMAGE>
