PURPOSE:To reduce the burden of an operator and to easily and efficiently segment a desired area in an image processing. CONSTITUTION:A source image stored in an image, memory 12 is displayed on a display monitor 14 and concerning source image picture elements in a coarse contour line instructed/inputted by a pointing device 15, edge strength is calculated so as to include a contour line during display. While referring to the edge strength, a central line extraction processing is applied until eliminating erasable picture elements with the picture element having the edge strength lower than a threshold value set in advance as an erasing object, the central line extraction processing is repeatedly applied to the coarse contour line until finally obtaining the thinning result of picture element having line width '1' while enlarging the threshold value, and a partial image having the obtained thinning result as the contour line is defined as an extracting area in the source image. |
