Process for the preparation of ketones by catalytic dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols in which: a feedstock containing at least one secondary alcohol is continuously introduced into the reboiling region of a distillation-dehydrogenation apparatus, of elongate form, containing at least one dehydrogenation catalyst and including, at its end opposite the reboiling region, a region for condensation of the vapours; distillation conditions are maintained in the distillation-dehydrogenation region so as to have a descending liquid phase and a rising vapour phase in the said region, and a liquid phase comprising the ketone formed and a gas phase containing hydrogen are continuously recovered from the region for condensation of the vapours, the said process being characterised in that the distillation-dehydrogenation region, situated between the reboiling region and the condensation region, contains a dehydrogenation catalyst in the form of solid particles contained in at least one element of C type comprising a container (Figure 1) having a closed outer casing which is permeable to the fluids and impermeable to the said solid particles.
