PURPOSE:To provide a negative electrode for lithium secondary battery having very large discharge capacity by adopting a mesophase corpuscle body whose surface is subjected to baking treatment after oxidation treatment as a lithium carrier. CONSTITUTION:Dehydrated coal tar is reacted at 385 deg.C under a pressure of 3kg/cm<2>.G for 14 hours to produce a mesophase corpuscle body (MCMB). Oxydation treatment is made to the MCMB at 120 deg.C in an air atmosphere for 3 hours, and then baking is made at 800 deg.C in a reducing atmosphere for 1 hour. One wt.% of polytetrafluoroethylene is added to the MCMB to make paste, and is pressed into a nickel mesh to make a negative electrode body for occluding lithium. An electrolyte of propylene carbonate, in which LiClO4 is melted to an appropriate density, is added to the negative electrode body 1 and a positive electrode body 2 of manganese dioxide and a separator 3, a case 4, a sealing plate 5, and insulating packing 6 are used to make a battery by a normal method. |
