PURPOSE:To increase contrast and to eliminate defocusing or distortion by using a liquid crystal panel near the optical axis without tilting a projection lens in a projecting device in which the rear surface of the liquid crystal panel is irradiated with light from a light source the intensity of the irradiating light is modulated by the panel and the transmitted light so projected. CONSTITUTION:Wedge-type optical elements 24, 25 are provided on the both sides of a liquid crystal panel 26. The light entering perpendicular to the panel 26 is refracted by the wedge-type optical element 24 disposed on the picture element of the panel 26, then transmits through glass 22, transparent electrode 21, liquid crystal compd. 23, insulating film 19, display electrode 20, and glass substrate 17, and enters in the optical element 25 where the light is again refracted and emitted to outside. The refractive index of optical elements 24, 25 is designed in a manner that the incident light entering perpendicular to the panel 26 transmits in the max. quantity through the liquid crystal compd. 23 and that both or the optical elements 24, 25 has the same refractive index. |
