Mulch mass comprises cellulose fibres (50-90 wt.%), lignin or lignin derivs. from prodn. of cellulose (1-15 wt.%) straw or green cut grass (0-30 wt.%), clay (0.20 wt.%), lime (0-20 wt.%) and fertiliser additives (0-10 wt.%), the total amt. being 100 wt.%. The cellulose fibres are pref. from unbleached or oxygen-bleached paper and the lignin is in the form of lignin sulphonate, lignin methoxide or an analogous lignin deriv. The mulch is in the form of a granulate. USE/ADVANTAGE - The mulch is useful for increasing soil pH and soil condition generally and is biologically degradable. The colour is brown, so that it does not affect the appearance of the soil surface, and the mulch has good spray properties so that it penetrates the soil even where plants are presen
