The standby apparatus of a car stereo having a portable handle and receiving a power from a battery of a car includes a standby driving unit inter-related to the handle for generating a standby signal after changing the handle from a first driving state to a second driving state, a microcomputer for receiving the standby signal to externally supply data stored in an internal storage unit therein, and a memory for storing the data from the microcomputer, so that the car stereo is automatically set to the standby state to protect the data of the microcomputer, while facilitating the installing to and separating from the car thereof.
