The 1,4-dihydropyridine compounds of formula I: <IMAGE> in which: - Y represents a phenyl radical optionally substituted by 1 to 5 identical or different substituents each representing a halogen atom, or an alkoxy or alkylthio radical each having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a trihalomethyl radical or a methylenedioxy radical; - Alk and Alk', which are identical or different, each represent an alkyl radical containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, in a linear or branched chain; - R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms in a linear or branched chain, or an alkenyl or alkynyl radical each having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms in a linear or branched chain: - A represents: a chain -(CH2)m- in which m is an integer from 1 to 5, optionally substituted by an alkyl radical containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms in a straight or branched chain, or by an alkenyl or alkynyl radical having from 2 to 5 carbon atoms in a straight or branched chain, and simultaneously - Ar represents: a) a phenyl radical optionally substituted by one or a number of halogen atoms or trifluoromethyl, nitro, cyano, alkoxycarbonyl, containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms, or alkylthio, containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, radicals, b) a thienyl, pyridyl, naphthyl, quinolyl, isoquinolyl, indolyl, N-methylindolyl, benzofurazanyl or benzo[2,1,3]thiadiazolyl radical, or - the assembly -A-Ar represents a dibenzo[a,d]cyclohept-5-yl radical; in the form of the dextrorotatory isomer.
