The measurement data transmission involves having a measurement device (1) installed in a hydrant which is coupled to a hydrophone or microphone (2) within a connector (3). The measurement data are encoded in a form suitable for transmission through the pipeline or fluent medium, e.g. by pulse-code modulation in an appropriate frequency range. The transmission follows a fixed time schedule from one measurement site to the next, through the network of pipelines to a central detection point. This utilises a suitable preamplifier, transmission amplifier, programmed microprocessor and memory at each site. USE/ADVANTAGE - Reliable transmission of e.g. pressure, speed, vol. flow, temp., chemical compsn., consistency or noise measurements in gasworks, waterworks, nuclear or chemical plants at favourable cost. Reduced manpower costs.
