A slide valve for use as a by-pass valve for pipes conveying media at a relatively high pressure, with a body (11), a tubular stub (15, 16) on the intake and discharge sides and a slide plate (12) movable perpendicularly to the central axis M of the tubular stubs by means of a control rod (14), in which the inner casing of the tubular stub (15) on the intake side tapers conically towards the side plate (12), the slide valve has a device (17, 17' - 18, 18' - 19, 19') to raise the slide plate (12, 13) parallel to the central axis (M), ensuring that the slide plate moves without wear.
