A cleaning compsn. for oil coolers contains at least 20% of a base, the fatty acid soap of which has a solubility of more than 10 pts. in 100 pts. of boiling water, and a solubiity of at least 0.4 pts. in 100 pts. of ethanol at 20 deg.C. The base is at least 50% of free KOH, and the compsn. may contain an organic amine salt, esp. salts of triethylamine, 5-10% of anionic surfactant and 2% of anti-foam, esp. an ethylene oxide copolymer. The compsn. is allowed to act for 10-24 hrs. at 60-80 deg.C.. USE/ADVANTAGE - The oil cooler, or heat-exchanger for oil mills, is used in processing oil seeds and fruits by grinding and distn., where dark coloured, firmly adherent and partially carbonised deposits form on the cooler. The process is quick, not longer than 24 hrs. at 60-80 deg.C. compared with 2-3 days for cleaning with HNO3. Even carbonised deposits are removed.
