In a new process for the prodn. of diazo cpds. by diazo gp. transfer onto activated methylene cpds., an azidoformamidinium salt is used as the diazo gp. transfer reagent. In a new process for the prodn. of azo cpds. of the formula D-N=N-A (IV) (where A is the residue of a coupling component and D is residue of an activated methylene cpd.), an activated methylene cpd. is reacted with an azidoformamidinium salt and obtd. diazo cpd. is reacted with a coupling component H-A.
